Old Vintage Melbourne Collaboration

“Check out just a few of the fascinating artefacts that have been discovered during the Metro Tunnel Project excavations.

These spectacular finds come from a Grocery Store that once stood next to Young and Jackson, facing Swanston Street. It burned down in 1855 which resulted in the preservation of an abundance of archeological items that provide us with a unique insight into life in Melbourne in the 1850s.

I want to thank Meg Goulding, the CEO and Principal Heritage Advisor of Ochre Imprints, as well as Jen Porter, Senior Artefact Manager at Ochre Imprints, for collaborating with me and talking us through these exciting discoveries. I also want to extend my gratitude to the Heritage Council of Victoria, Jeremy Smith, Principal Archaeologist at Heritage Victoria, the team from the Metro Tunnel Project and Rail Projects Victoria.” – @oldvintagemelbourne
