Supporting greater recognition of migrant heritage.
Since the 1940s, migration has profoundly transformed Victoria. By examining migration themes, we can better understand the significance of post-1940s migration to Victoria’s heritage.
This study was undertaken in partnership with Heritage Victoria. It involved post-war migrants and their communities. Researchers worked with a local council with strong ties to those communities.
The goal was to help local governments identify migrant heritage places and address gaps in local heritage studies.
The final report includes:
a thematic history of post-1940s migration to Victoria
guidance on how to work with migrant communities to discover the heritage places they value
recommendations for further investigations.
The study shows the need to engage all communities in shaping and celebrating Victoria’s rich, diverse heritage.
