In 2025, the Festival explores the theme Unearthed – revealing the past, bringing to light lesser-known histories, stories and narratives, and unearthing knowledge to empower younger generations as custodians of culture and traditions.

The Heritage Festival explores the state’s places and spaces, stories, collections and ideas that make us who we are.

One of Victoria’s largest open-access community events, the Heritage Festival program features hundreds of events ranging from talks to tours, walks to workshops and exhibitions to special events.

Events happen anywhere: urban and rural, towns and suburbs; in museums and libraries; in boats, trains and mysterious buildings; on the street, by the water and in nature.

Hear the stories of the unusual and unknown; from amazing experts to local guides. With hundreds of events to choose from, there’s something for curious minds of all ages.

The Australian Heritage Festival is organised and led by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), the state’s premier community-based heritage advocacy organisation, and supported by the Heritage Council Victoria and The Victorian Goldfields World Heritage Bid.
