Between birth and death lies history
During History Month 2024, we are celebrating 50 years of the Victorian Heritage Register.
The state government created the Victorian Historic Buildings Register in 1974. This Register protected heritage places and came about after many years of activism.
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Victorian Heritage Register. It now protects more than only buildings. The Register includes objects, collections, shipwrecks, parks, gardens and more.
Check out History Month events happening near you. You can learn more about the Register and visit many heritage sites across the state. Help us celebrate this anniversary and come along.
History Month is a Royal Historical Society of Victoria event. The Heritage Council of Victoria is a major sponsor of History Month.
