Community Perceptions of Heritage

In 2014 the Heritage Council of Victoria commissioned a literature review of existing research and studies on community perceptions of heritage to inform planning and help provide a basis for prioritising projects and expenditure.

The report provides an overview of existing research, key findings such as what ‘heritage’ means to people, how interest in heritage develops, attitudes to the preservation of heritage, the expected role of government and whether expectations are being met.

It also looks at considerations for communication planning and further research.
