Queens Birthday Honours

The 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours list recognises 992 Australians, including 669 in the General Division of the Order of Australia, and awards for meritorious, distinguished and conspicuous service.

We would like to congratulate the following important women in heritage, planning and architecture who were recognised in this year’s list:

  • Former Heritage Council Chair, Jenny Moles was recognised as Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to historical conservation and town planning organisations. As many of you know Jenny has spent her career working across various levels of heritage and planning.
  • Phyllis Murphy was recognised as Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her service to architecture and historical conservation. She was one of two female architecture graduates in 1949 and went on to be involved in the design of the Olympic Swimming Pool and restoration of a number of heritage buildings in Melbourne.
  • Kerstin Thompson was recognised as Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to architecture and tertiary education.  Kerstin is principal at Kerstin Thompson Architects and has worked on a number of high profile heritage conservation projects. She gave an engaging and insightful Heritage Address for the Heritage Council three years ago.
